Denny Smith - In Color @ The ARTS
On exhibit through September 8, 2010
The ARTS

An exhibition of recent artworks by Allen Crittenden Smith is now open at the Spotlight Gallery @ The ARTS in Corning. This marks the first solo exhibit for the artist in over three decades.
Smith states: "I was an art student cranked out of the late modernist school back in the 1970's. My teachers were second-generation abstract expressionists. Post-modernism was happening all around us, but it hadn't been validated yet."
Nine of these large watercolor paintings will be on display at the Spotlight Gallery of The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, 32 West Market Street, Corning, from August 10 through September 8.

Smith received an Artists Crossroads grant through The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes for an art performance/mural project and was a featured performance artist at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery's Gusto at the Gallery. Similar performances have been made for the Arnot Art Museum, the ARTS of the Southern Finger Lakes and the Corning Museum of Glass.  A participant in the New York Foundation for the Arts MARK professional development program in 2008, Smith trained as a MARK Consulting Artist in 2010. He is a graduate of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.

The Spotlight Gallery @ The ARTS is open Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.  For more information about the exhibit, please contact The ARTS by phone (607) 962-5871 x223 or email infoARTS@eARTS.org.  For more information about The ARTS, please visit www.eARTS.org

Centerway Square

What is Making Strides Against Breast Cancer?
Since 1993, MSABC has been the American Cancer Society's rallying cry to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer.  Pledges collected for this 3-mile non-competitive walk are dedicated to life-saving American Cancer Society research, education, patient support and advocacy programs to eliminate breast cancer.
Nearly six million walkers have raised more than $400 million through Making Strides.  In 2009 alone, nearly 700,000 walkers across the country collected $60 million to help fight breast cancer. In the past 15 years Making Strides Against Breast Cancer has grown from a single walk to over 140 events raising over $280 million for breast cancer research and services.  This will be the inaugural event for the Corning, NY area.
A time to celebrate
By organizing a walking team for Making Strides you can help to make progress against this disease.  Inspired by breast cancer survivors, you, your co-workers, family and friends can walk, run or cheer from the sidelines.

It will be the Kickoff year in Corning, NY on September 26, 2010.  You won't want to miss it!

Parallax @ Exhibit A
On exhibit through October 23, 2010

Exhibit A is proud to present Parallax, a two person exhibition featuring Joshua Sperling and Jeremy Holmes. A gallery talk with the artists is scheduled for Saturday, October 23, at 5:00pm.

Joshua Sperling's large paintings push pattern and color to the limit and create bold optic experiences. In both his paintings and his smaller works his use of transformations within the structure of pattern are meditative studies of "what you see is what you get."

Jeremy Holmes three dimensional works in wood have a gravity defying fluidity. The gestural quality of Holmes' ribbon-like creations calls attention to the space occupied by the work.  Holmes works in a variety of scales and creates both interior and exterior installations.

Exhibit A is located upstairs in the Pure Design Building, 39-41 East Market Street, Corning NY. Regular gallery hours are Thursday and Friday 11-6:00pm, Saturday 4-6:00pm.  Interested parties can also call (607) 259-1008 to visit the gallery by appointment.
